Yangqin
Yangqin is also called a hammered dulcimer. It is played by hitting strings with a pair of bamboo mallets with rubber heads. Our Yangqins are mainly from Xinghai, one of the largest musical instrument manufacturers in China. The Yangqin they made is known as the preferred instrument for competitions and professional performances.
Yangqin comes from the same clan with piano. Its tone is distinctive, loud, and it can produce soft and percussive sound at the same time. The performance of yangqin comes in many ways, including solo, ensemble, or as an accompaniment in storytelling as well as in traditional opera. It often plays the role of “piano accompaniment” in traditional Chinese orchestra and folk music band.
